Glenda "Aiwa" Florez is a Professional Polynesian Dancer and Choreographer. She started to dance as a child and has danced Professionally for more than 20 years. She has studied the art of Polynesian Dance in numerous Halau's or Hula Schools throughout the nation as well as in Europe. Most of her hula training comes from the Ilima style of dance. She performed for The Mai-Kai Polynesian Restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale, FL for 12 years. she also has performed in numerous shows in the U.S. as well as in Europe.
She currently has her own group in Aurora, Colorado- Kalama Polynesian Dancers and Polynesian Party Planners INC. for 10 years. They specialize in workshops, performances (birthdays, corporate parties, weddings, etc), fresh flower leis, and fire performances. Kalama has traveled for performances to Las Vegas, New Mexico, Orlando, Seattle, San Antonio, North Dakota, Wyoming, etc.. Kalama Polynesian Dancers competes in various Polynesian Dance Competitions in the Nation.
Aiwa is also the founder of Halau Kalama- a non-profit organization who's mission is to give back to the community through song and dance the meaning of ALOHA. Aiwa teaches children, men, women the songs and dances of Hawaii, New Zealand, Tahiti, Samoa.
Aiwa has around 100 students in Colorado and teaches male and female dancers - all ages.
In addition to Polynesian Dancing Aiwa has also cross-trained in other forms of dance and has collaborated with many Master Instructors and Performers including Kaya and Sadie- International Bellydancers.
Aiwa has taught Polynesian Dance Aerobics and Fusion Dance for many years in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Denver, CO aside from traditional and modern forms of Polynesian Dance.
